New Student Orientation

Before you Arrive Complete Orientation Part 1: Online Module

Our online module is an interactive program designed to prepare you to become a successful and connected student at GCU. The module introduces you to Welcome Week information, academic essentials, processes and policies, and life at GCU. You’re encouraged to invite your parents or family to go through this module with you.

The Fall 2024 module will be released on July 1st, and should be completed from home before classes begin.

Once you Arrive Attend Orientation Part 2: New Student & Family Orientation

The in-person portion of NSO will take place once you arrive onto campus.

  • New Student & Family Commissioning: A session for all new students and families where you will officially be commissioned into the Herd.

  • New Student Orientation Groups (O-Groups): A small group of other new Lopes led by a returning student. These groups meet directly following New Student and Family Orientation.

  • Parent and Family Orientation: A session for your family to attend while you participate in your O-group.

New Student Orientation Schedule

Daily Reoccurring Schedule: Monday, August 26th - Wednesday, August 28th

New Student & Family Commissioning: 4 - 5 pm, Global Credit Union Arena

Parent & Family Orientation: 5 - 6:30 pm, Global Credit Union Arena

Orientación para Padres y Familias: 5 - 6:30 pm (ubicación por determinar)

Orientation Groups (New Students Only): 5 - 7 pm, GCU Campus

New Student Orientation (NSO) is a required program designed to equip you and your family with the information and resources you need to thrive as you transition to GCU.

Orientation begins with the online module (launches on July 1st) and continues in person during Welcome Week.

Student Learning Objectives

Through participation in the NSO process (Orientation Part 1: Online Module and Orientation Part 2: New Student & Family Orientation), new students will; 

  • Understand GCU values, campus resources, and involvement opportunities to help prepare for a successful college experience

  • Engage with campus culture and community to develop a sense of belonging.  

  • Recognize policies necessary to uphold federal law and adhere to GCU community standards.

Parent and Family Learning Objectives

Through participation in the NSO process, parents and families will;

  • Learn about the GCU campus environment and policies necessary to uphold federal law and adhere to GCU community standards.  

  • Recognize how the college transition impacts family dynamics and the ways GCU communicates with and supports families through this change.
